Edit Me!

I recently noticed that I haven't posted many photos with people in them. So I started rummaging the library and found this candid shot of my brother and his friends 'hanging out' on the beach. After staring at it for a while I became entranced by the extreme focus... hmm... or rather lack of focus that each had at the moment. In examining the photo, my focus immediately entered a journey to a magical place and without evening knowing it I became inspired by Lear Bunda's short film, 'Gypsy Crepes' and Joe Koubecks theme song for the film, 'Journey to a Magical Place'. I'll strongly assume that's where Jonathan, Tim, Alex and Steph are during this moment.

I can't seem to get this photo where I want it. I have about 5 different versions and for each one the colors seem either too dull or too bright and the animations are either too much or too little. I just can't get it there... Anyway, thank you to Lears inpiration, but I bet he would be able to get this right somehow.

I invite anyone to give recommendations for how to improve or I can send over the .psd and you can have at it yourself. I'll post whatever you do for a comparison, which was the motivation behind the posts title, 'Edit Me!'

Check out the Gypsy Crepes trailor here! You'll see what I mean.

  1. Somehow, I managed to stumble upon your blog. All I have to say is, awesome photographs and absolutely beautiful descriptions. They're quite breathtaking and makes me want to visit the places you mention.

  2. Thanks! Your really nice comments have been on my mind all day. The encouragement gives me drive to keep at it. And honestly I didn't think anyone read this so it's nice that I had one person stumble upon it...

I head out on a mini odyssey in a couple weeks. First stop, Spain. I'll be exploring Barcelona, the basque region and then down to Andalucia in the southern parts for some kiteboarding adventures. Next stop, Melbourne, Florida for a mini family reunion. Then NYC for a wedding. And finally bringing me back to my current headquarters in London. I'm already tired thinking about it, but I can't wait to be on the move.

With some luck I'll have some great images and experiences to share.

Keep letting me know what you like and/or dislike. It definitely helps. Thanks again!

  3. The picture for this post is AWESOME! Nice work Mikey.

  4. Hello again! Your mini odyssey sounds eventful, and as tiring as it may be, I'm sure that it will also be exciting. I'm actually pretty jealous that I'm not having a similar journey of my own.

You should have a lot of great images to capture, and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your photos. That said, don't worry that people may or may not be reading your blog. Who knows? There might be more internet wanderers like me who've appreciated your work but just didn't comment. Keep up the great work, and I'll try to give as much feedback as I can!
